A gorgeous vintage Turkmen rug with an incredibly rich ruby red field, covered in rows of bold repeating geometric gul motifs in deep burgundy, black, ivory and brown.

The repeating pattern is what really makes this one. Large geometric guls alternate with smaller motifs across the entire field, creating a beautifully rhythmic design that feels almost graphic from a distance, but reveals loads of intricate little details when you get closer. Narrow patterned borders frame the whole piece without taking anything away from that incredible expanse of red.

There’s something brilliantly bold and timeless about Turkmen rugs. The limited colour palette and strong geometric pattern give them a completely different feel to the more elaborate floral Persian rugs, and this one would look amazing in both traditional and contemporary interiors.

That deep red would be particularly gorg against warm woods, stainless steel, chrome, black leather, concrete or more minimal furniture. It’s the kind of rug that can completely transform a simple room without needing much else around it.
