A bold and beautifully characterful vintage Afghan rug featuring three geometric medallions surrounded by an expressive mix of tribal motifs in rich madder red, deep burgundy, ink navy, warm brown and flashes of ivory. Handwoven in Afghanistan around the 1960s, this piece has that unmistakable graphic quality found in traditional tribal weaving.

The three central medallions give the rug a strong architectural feel, each outlined in contrasting ivory and surrounded by smaller geometric, floral and symbolic forms. A richly patterned border frames the design, while subtle variations in colour and weave give the whole piece a wonderful depth and character that could only come from something genuinely handmade.

Afghan rugs are celebrated for their hardwearing wool construction, deeply saturated palettes and strong geometric designs, with weaving traditions passed down through generations.
