Ghita
A lush Moroccan Zanafi kilim rug with a beautifully graphic design, intricate woven detailing and a monochrome black and ivory colour palette.
Handwoven in Morocco using traditional Zanafi weaving techniques, this lovely piece combines fine, closely spaced stripes with bold, raised geometric motifs. A wonderfully tactile design that proves you don't need a riot of colour to make a serious statement.
Natural ivory and deep black wool come together in a rhythmic arrangement of delicate horizontal lines, oversized diamond shapes and decorative woven bands. The contrast between the finer flatwoven sections and thicker, raised detailing creates a brilliant sense of depth and movement across the surface.
There's something distinctly modernist about this one. The repeated diamond motifs have an almost architectural quality, while the intricate monochrome stripes give the rug a wonderfully graphic, almost optical effect. There's a little hint of Scandinavian modernism, with all the character and individuality of traditional Moroccan craftsmanship.
What makes Zanafi rugs particularly interesting is their distinctive weaving technique. Unlike the thick, shaggy pile of many Moroccan rugs, Zanafi kilims are woven with a flatter, more structured surface, incorporating raised decorative details that give the pattern its beautiful texture and definition.
The combination of fine stripes and chunky, twisted wool motifs creates a lovely contrast, with the slightly irregular lines and subtle variations in the weave adding to its handmade charm. The oversized diamond pattern feels bold and considered without being overly rigid or symmetrical.
There's a wonderful simplicity to the black and ivory palette, allowing the texture and geometry to do all the talking. It's a design that feels equally at home alongside vintage pieces as it does in a more contemporary setting.
A brilliant piece for anyone drawn to mid-century interiors, unusual textiles and bold graphic design. Think black leather, tubular chrome, stainless steel, warm vintage woods and sculptural furniture. Equally at home in a pared-back, minimalist space or bringing a little contrast and texture to a more eclectic interior.
And thanks to its flatwoven construction, it's a particularly versatile choice for living rooms, dining areas and other spaces where a thick, plush rug might not be quite right.
Part rug, part geometric artwork. A beautifully understated statement piece with heaps of texture, character and a design that manages to feel both traditional and refreshingly contemporary.
As with all handmade rugs, slight variations in weave, shape and texture are part of its character and individuality.
In excellent new condition and ready for its next home.
