Lush handwoven vintage Turkish Kayseri rug in a dreamy, slightly unusual palette of soft sage green, creamy ivory, faded apricot, warm taupe and dusty olive, with unexpected flashes of electric turquoise and deep aubergine. It's beautifully muted and earthy from a distance, but get a little closer and all those wonderful pops of colour start to reveal themselves.

Taking centre stage is an oversized floral medallion, made up of intricate, paisley-like petals in soft apricot, turquoise and muted blue, surrounding a delicate sage green centre. The rest of the rug is filled with curling vines, tiny flowers, leafy tendrils and wonderfully detailed botanical motifs, all outlined in deep, inky tones that give the pattern an almost illustrated quality.

The elaborate border is a beauty in itself, with repeating floral and paisley motifs in faded greens, apricot and turquoise, framing the central design without overpowering it. There's so much going on here, yet the soft, timeworn palette somehow brings everything together.

There's something distinctly '70s about this colour combination. Those avocado and sage greens, faded peachy oranges and unexpected flashes of bright turquoise give it a slightly psychedelic edge. A proper belter alongside mid-century furniture, dark woods, black leather, chrome or more minimal contemporary interiors.

Kayseri rugs are celebrated for their fine weaving and beautifully detailed floral compositions, and this is a particularly lovely example. Handwoven in wool on a cotton foundation, the pile has softened beautifully with age, giving it that relaxed, lived-in vintage feel while still showing off all the intricate detail.

Soft, botanical and just the right side of weird. A proper statement rug without shouting about it.
