A beautifully unusual vintage Azerbaijan runner, handwoven in a rich mix of deep berry red, hot pink, burnt orange, soft lilac, olive and inky black, with tiny flashes of metallic thread woven through selected motifs that catch the light as you move around it.

The design is wonderfully expressive, with a series of large geometric medallions running through the centre, surrounded by smaller floral and tribal motifs and framed by bold, graphic borders. There’s something almost jewel-like about the colour palette, particularly the unexpected pops of neon pink and orange against the deeper burgundy ground.

What really makes this piece special is the metallic detailing. Fine shimmering threads have been worked into parts of the pattern, adding little glints of blue, silver and metallic colour amongst the wool. It’s subtle rather than sparkly all over, so you tend to notice it differently depending on the light. Such a lovely, quirky detail and something I don't come across very often.

There’s a brilliant folk-art quality to this one too. The slightly irregular drawing, shifting colours and individually worked motifs give it loads of personality, while the long, narrow proportions make it perfect for bringing colour and pattern into a hallway, kitchen, landing or alongside a long dining table.

Handwoven from wool with a low vintage pile, it has all the texture, variation and character you’d expect from an older handmade piece. The colours have softened and shifted beautifully with age while still feeling incredibly vibrant and contemporary.

A proper one-off, full of colour, pattern and unexpected little details.

In great vintage condition with age-related wear consistent with its age. Professionally cleaned and ready for its next home.
